SEB Wins Own Boys Holiday Basketball Tourney, N. Clay finishes Eighth At Wayne City

In a Friday contest, St. Elmo/Brownstown won over Cumberland, 50-36.
Lowell Wilhour led the winners in Friday play with 18 points while Collin Maxey added 14.
Adam Atwood pulled down eight rebounds. Josiah Maxey led in steals with five.
St. Elmo/Brownstown hit 41 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line with eight of 13.
In the other Friday game, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City trounced Mulberry Grove, 66-38.
In Saturday action, St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed a 73-48 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg for the championship.
Five players finished in double digits for the winners.
SEB ripped out to a 21-10 opening quarter lead and led 39-19 at halftime. Atwood put in eight points and Brody Mason seven in the opening quarter run.
Josiah Maxey and Mason led the way with 16 points each while Cade Schaub added 14 and Collin Maxey and Atwood had 12 each.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Jackson Gurgel with 22 points. He was the lone player in double figures. Connor Manhart and Nathaniel Gracey scored eight each.
In the third place contest, Cumberland edged Hillsboro by a 53-46 count.
Hillsboro took a 13-8 opening quarter lead and led 25-24 at halftime.
Cumberland started their comeback behind Cameron Roedl's seven points while Kelby Bierman added five in the second quarter to pull the Pirates within a point at halftime.
But the Hiltoppers got back on track with a 15-9 third period to lead 40-33.
Here came Cumberland, the Pirates went on a 20-6 final period tear to pull out the victory. Blake McMechan hit a three-pointer, a two-pointer and was four of four at the line for nine points in the quarter while Kelby Bierman hit a basket and three free throws for five and Roedl knocked in a three-pointer.
Kelby Bierman finished with 13 points while McMechan added 11 and Roedl 10.
The consolation championship went to Patoka/Odin over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 56-54.
Patoka/Odin edged out to a 14-13 opening quarter lead behind Landreth's 12 points.
Patoka/Odin held a 28-21 halftime lead. CHBC kept close as Clayton Wojcik hit a basket and was five of six at the line for seven points.
CHBC had a 12-11 third quarter edge and stood within six points heading into the final period.
That's when the Bobcats went on a 21-17 tear but ended up losing by two points. Wojcik hit a basket and three free throws while Gage Lorton hit two baskets and four free throws for eight in the quarter.
Wojcik finished with 21 points on six field goals and nine of 12 at the line while Lorton chipped in with 17 for the Bobcats.
The seventh place contest went to Mulberry Grove over Ramsey, 83-77 in overtime.
Named to the All-Tournament First Team were Jackson Gurgel (Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg) who was chosen Most Valuable Player, Nathan Matoush (Hillsboro), Gunner Finley (Ramsey), Owen Landreth (Patoka/Odin) and Adam Atwood (St. Elmo/Brownstown).
Named to the Second Team were Josiah Maxey (St. Elmo/Brownstown), Collin Maxey (St. Elmo/Brownstown), Conner Manhart (Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg), Clayton Wojcik (Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City) and Zack Harmon (Cumberland).
The Defense Award went to Josiah Maxey (St. Elmo/Brownstown).
First place Cheer Award went to St. Elmo/Brownstown and second place went to Ramsey.

At Wayne City
The Wayne City Tournament came to a close Saturday.
Webber Township (Bluford) won the tourney by beating Grayville, 69-62 in the title contest.
Third place went to Cisne over Crab Orchard, 73-58.
Wayne City beat Lovejoy, 59-45 for fifth place. Linton-Stockton won over North Clay (Louisville), 71-41 for seventh place. Cody Zimdars was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Sandoval downed Wayne City JV, 72-41 for ninth place and Edwards County (Albion) beat Thompsonville, 75-21 for 11th place.
