Altamont High School's Grace Nelson connected on 43 points sending her over 2,000 for her career as the Indians handed Effingham St. Anthony a 78-67 National Trail Conference girls basketball loss Monday evening.

Nelson started off with six points in the opening quarter. St. Anthony had edged ahead 18-17 as Adysen Rios scored six points and Stacie Vonderheide five.

But Nelson was just getting warmed up. She nailed five baskets and was three of three at the line for 13 points as Altamont surged ahead St. Anthony at halftime, 44-30.

Altamont's Peyton Osteen and Claire Boehm were also on fire for Altamont with seven and five points respectively, both hitting a three-pointer each.

St. Anthony and Altamont played to an even 17-17 third quarter. Vonderheide went on a roll for the Bulldogs, knocking in four baskets and was five of five at the free throw line for 13 points.

On the other side of the court, Nelson continued on, hitting five baskets, one a three-pointer, and a free throw for 12 points.

The Bulldogs rallied and came back with a 20-17 final period behind Aubrey Denning's nine pints and Vonderheide's seven but that second quarter was the downfall for St. Anthony.

Nelson connected on 17 field goals, one from three-point range, and was a perfect eight of eight at the line for her 43 points. Boehm added 12 while Kaylie Lurkins finished with 10.

Altamont hit 54.9 precent from the field and was 78.3 percent from the free throw line with 18 of 22.
