Melva “Jean” Burcham, 84, of Teutopolis, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.

A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham on Friday, February 5. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

Melva Jean was born on January 30, 1936, in Greensburg, PA, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Bastich) Muskin.

Jean worked the night shift as a cook at Niemerg’s Steakhouse for 22 years. She had a passion for cooking, baking, and decorating cakes. Jean also took pride in keeping her house clean and enjoyed tending the flowers in her garden. Jean had a fun spirit and enjoyed dancing, crafting, and playing SkipBo and other card games. Jean loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who have always called her “Bubba”.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Gary) Vahling of Teutopolis; son, Allen (Elaine) Clark of Chicago; grandchildren, Wendy (Matthew) Ordner, Jennifer (Travis) Wendt, Ricky (Colleen) Oliver, and Michelle (fiancé, Stephen Hallof) Clark; great-grandchildren, Caleb Ordner, Kaelyn Ordner, Zachary Ordner, Nicholas Hallof, Leah Hallof, Anthony Oliver, Quinn Oliver, Logan Oliver; sister, Donna Roberts; and nephew, Steven Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald Muskin and Melvin Muskin; and brother-in-law, Marcus Roberts.
