Neal Anthony Koberlein, age 76, of Brownstown, Illinois passed away at 4:25 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 2020, at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia, Illinois. 

Graveside services will be Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in St. Elmo, Illinois with Father Joseph Havrilka officiating.

Neal was born on May 6, 1944, in Wheatland Township, St. Elmo, Illinois, the son of Lawrence A. Koberlein and Mary V. (Malloy) Koberlein.  He married Esther Buff on April 20, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Elmo, Illinois.  Neal was a lifelong farmer.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church was on the Brownstown School Board for twelve years and on the Vandalia Mutual Insurance Board.  He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Koberlein; sons, Tony Koberlein (wife Lisa) and Larry Koberlein (wife Mary) both of St. Elmo, Illinois; one brother, Ross Koberlein (wife Beverly) of Brownstown, Illinois; two sisters, Rochelle Suttory, (husband Lou) and Linda Lehnert (husband Bill) both of Springfield, Illinois; grandsons, Mathew Koberlein, Justin Koberlein, and Luke Koberlein all of St Elmo, Illinois; granddaughter Andrea Koberlein of Effingham, Illinois; great-granddaughters, Matison and Kinley Koberlein of Effingham, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mary Koberlein, and two siblings in infancy.
