James N. Flota (80) of Effingham

James N. Flota, 80, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020 at his home.

No public services will be held at this time. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

James was born on August 27, 1940 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of Coy and Cecile (Rapp) Flota.He married Ruby Jean Howard in 1989 in Kentucky, and she preceded him in death on September 23, 2017. James was the mixing department manager for General Tire in Mt. Vernon for many years. He also worked on the Hartke Farms and drove a semi-truck for a short time. James loved to fish and play cards, especially Texas Hold’em. He loved his children and grandchildren and could always be counted on when needed.

James is survived by his children, Loretta (Douglas Jr.) Caldwell of Edgewood, Allen Flota of Hampton, VA, Jamie (Tom) Alvis of Walnut Hill, and Tonya (Matthew) Wood of Manito; grandchildren, Aaron Flota, Amber Mines, Keasha Caldwell, Sierra Caldwell, Stacey Burrus, Zachary Flota, Tyler Flota, Tristian Alvis, Bryson Alvis, Christopher Riggs, and Shelby Riggs; 8 great-grandchildren; significant other, Tootie Gentry; and best friend and neighbor, Randy Stookey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby Jean; and brother, Larry Flota.
