Doris Estella Wallace, 92, of Oak Lawn, died on Wednesday, April 7, 2020 at Christ Hospital, Oak Lawn.
There will be a private graveside service at Union Cemetery, Altamont with Rev. Paige Campbell officiating. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Doris was born on Tuesday, May 3, 1927 in St. Elmo, IL to Donald and Leitha (Bledsoe) Gibbons. She married Dr. Robert C. Wallace on April 15, 1949 and he preceded her in death on August 7, 1991. Doris was a graduate of St. Elmo High School and received a nursing degree from the Deaconess School of Nursing, St. Louis, MO. She resided in Illinois her entire life, primarily in the Oak Lawn area. She was active in local and statewide politics, was a member of the League of Women Voters and also ran for a seat on the Oak Lawn Board of Education. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church where she practiced her faith and enjoyed the company of fellow believers.
She is survived by her daughter, Melody (Gary) Bricault, Rochester, NY; sister, Margaret Carroll, Vandalia; brother, Leon Gibbons, Greenville, KY; 5 grandchildren; Elizabeth Herzog (Bricault), Dr. Christine Bricault, Jeffery Wallace, Kristin Wallace and Lindsey Wallace.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, David Wallace.
