
Owen H. Guthrie (89) of Springfield

Owen H. Guthrie, 89, of Springfield, Illinois passed away at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield with his wife by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19 at Peace Lutheran Church, 2800 W. Jefferson St., Springfield with Pastor Mary Zupansic officiating. Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery, 308 E. North 6th Street, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made in Owen’s name to Peace Lutheran Church, 2800 W. Owen was born October 25, 1929, in Pana, the son of Hal and Neta (Tucker) Guthrie. Owen and Coralie Wetherell were united in holy matrimony July 2, 1967 in Springfield. Owen earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and retired from the Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois after 35 years. He enjoyed listening to the radio, especially baseball, and traveling.
Surviving are his wife, Coralie of Springfield; brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Becker of Terre Haute, IN; nephew, John Richard Becker III of Terre Haute, IN and niece, Dr. Julia Marie Becker of Lafayette, IN; two cousins and many more nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal and Neta Guthrie and sister, Lois Guthrie Becker.
