Jobless Rates for June 2023

Unemployment rates in area counties were up in June from the same month one year earlier.
Effingham County's jobless rate of 3.1% in June was up from 2.8% in June 2022.
Area counties and their rates for June 2023:
Coles--5%, up from 4.7%
Cumberland--3.6%, up from 3.3%
Shelby--4.6%, up from 3.9%
Clay--5.5%, up from 4.4%
Fayette--4.8%, up from 4%
Jasper--4%, up from 3.7%
In the Effingham area, total nonfarm employment inceased by 1,175 in June, compared to one year earlier.
Employment gains were posted in Government; Leisure and Hospitality; Construction; Educational and Health Services; Financial Activities; Other Services; Natural Resources and Mining; and Trade, Transportation and Utilities.
Nonfarm payrolls declined in Manufacturing and Information Services.
No change in employment was recorded in Professional and Business Services.
While jobless rates were up from a year ago in local counties in June, the state jobless rate was down, from 4.8% in June 2022 to 4.5% this past month.
