Missouri Man Found Dead in Local Rest Area Tuesday Morning

The Illinois State Police and Rural Med EMS received a 911 call about 11am Tuesday of an unresponsive male at the I-70 West Bound Rest Area – MP 87. Upon arrival they found the male deceased in a SUV parked at the rest area.

The Coroner’s office was notified and responded to the rest area.

The deceased male was identified as Charles Welch Jr. age 52 of St. Joseph, Missouri. He was a passenger in a vehicle occupied by his wife and sister-in-law. They were traveling from a trade show in Boston back home to Missouri when they found him unresponsive. His wife indicated he has not been feeling well the past few days. Medical records were requested from his primary doctor in Missouri.

Welch was transported to HSHS St. Anthony Hospital by Rural Med EMS. Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes said it appears the death is from natural causes however the investigation is continuing by the Effingham County Coroner’s office.
