At approximately 5:45 p.m., a white Freightliner truck-tractor semi-trailer was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 at milepost 139. A 2005 maroon Peterbilt truck-tractor semi-trailer, a 2018 Blue Ford Explorer and a 2016 white International truck-tractor semi-trailer were stopped in traffic.
For unknown reasons, the white Freightliner truck-tractor semi-trailer failed to stop and struck the rear of the Peterbilt truck-tractor semi-trrailer. The Peterbilt became engulfed in fire. The driver of the Freightliner truck was fatally injured and pronounced deceased on the scene by the Clark County coroner.
The driver of the Peterbilt truck was transported to a regional hospital with minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the Ford Explorer were also transported to a regional hospital with minor injuries. The International truck driver reported no injuries on the scene.
Traffic was rerouted to US Route 40 at exit 147. All lanes of I-70 westbound were reopened at approximately 9:30 a.m.
