Olney Man Dies, Car Crash Results in Effingham

An Olney man has died, and authorities believe a medical emergency suffered by the man resulted in a crash at Evergreen and 4th in Effingham Wednesday morning.

Gary Bird of Olney was traveling on 4th Street when he suffered the emergency and his vehicle rear-ended a vehicle at the intersection driven by Nhi Bui of Effingham. The impact pushed Bui's vehicle into the rear of a vehicle driven by Zelda Sears of Effingham.

Bird was taken from the scene to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, where he died. Bird's wife, Jeanette, who was a passenger in the car, was not injured and neither were the drivers of the other two vehicles.

Effingham Police Department, Effingham County Sheriff's Department, Effingham Fire Department, and Rural Med EMS were all on scene.
