TREC Board President Frank Brummer said the agency is looking to raise funds for the Nature Park outside Effingham as the chief goal for 2023.

TREC stands for Trail Recreation Effingham County, and has developed a hiking, biking, walking and running network of trails around and outside Effingham.

Brummer said TREC needs to raise $50,000 to provide the local match for a $200,000 state grant. He said that TREC continues to receive grants because local contributors and local government continues to come up with the local match.

Brummer said the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is very supportive of TREC "because we have our ducks in a row", especially since many other counties do not.

The TREC Board re-elected Brummer, Gary Welton and Jodi Thoele to new terms and added new board members Mo Dust and James Schultz.

The same slate of officers was chosen, including Brummer as President, Bill Austin as Vice President, Welton as secretary, and Andy Vogt as treasurer.

As to what is currently active, TREC applied for the bike path grant mentioned earlier in March, and still are marketing naming opportunities for donors.
