An Effingham woman has pleaded guilty to a felony count of delivery of heroin in exchange for dismissal of a Class X felony count of drug-induced homicide.
26-year-old Katelann Miller was charged in 2018 with delivering drugs to a Teutopolis man. When the man allegedly ingested them, the drugs caused his death.
Effingham County State's Attorney Aaron Jones said the same agreement had been offered Miller by the previous administration. Jones said conversations with those close to the case indicated concerns about the evidence available in the case.
Miller was given credit for 381 days in jail awaiting disposition of her case. She was placed on one year probation and was fined.
Jones said Miller also has made positive changes in her life and said he wanted to take that into consideration.
