Windsor Superintendent Erik VanHoveln, like most school district officials, are dealing with two major issues...keeping their bus fleet in good shape, and finding enough people to drive the vehicles.
The timeline to secure new buses is lengthy, so VanHoveln worked out a short-term lease agreement. For $1, the district can keep a bus for one more year than the original lease agreement allowed. The district can keep the lease until the new bus arrives.
As to the drivers, Sonny Ross' retirement was accepted, but the Board hired Andy Peadro as a full-time driver and Mark Crowe as a substitute driver.
There were several other personnel moves approved: resignations were accepted from Lindsay Smith-Sines as district social worker, Damien Centers as elementary school PE teacher and Kelly Barringer as part-time Agriculture teacher, Shelly Clotfelter as high school Student Council advisor, National Honor Society advisor, and high school Scholastic Bowl coach, and Josh Forsythe as high school morning supervisor.
Those hired in addition to the bus drivers were Jacob Godinez as elementary school PE teacher and elementary breakfast supervisor, Kelsey Beard as a district school counselor, Anthony Huff as full-time substitute and elementary gym supervisor, Megan McClard as junior/senior high school Social Studies teacher, Brandon Stone as 7th and 8th grade sponsor, Melissa Murphy as 9th grade class sponsor, Becky Fogarty as National Honor Society sponsor, and Nick Hartke as fresh/soph volleyball coach.
The Windsor board had to table discussion of an energy contract until November and discussion of high school renovation or addition work until September when the representatives of the presenting firms couldn't be present. The Board got an academic advisor update, approved their junior/senior high school improvement plan, okayed a tentative budget for the coming fiscal year, and adopted a number of policy updates.
