Phase 2 of the Lake Sara Beach Park project is ready for development, once local matching money is raised.
The Phase 2 work is currently $250,000 shy of the funding needed to receive a $400,000 matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The first funds raised will go directly toward the purchase of a new pirate to replace one stolen earlier this summer.
Along with the return of the pirate, the upcoming amenities will include four pickleball courts, a sand volleyball court, exercise equipment, a walking track, and an American Ninja Warrior obstacle course, among other features.
Donations of more than $500 will be recognized on a permanent donor wall within the park.
