Work is to begin Monday to take the jog out of West Fayette Road in the bottoms west of Effingham.
The Effingham County Highway Department will work with Summit Township officials and Keith Lewis Construction on the project. The road will be closed in the area of the project for four to six weeks.
The work will involve taking the culverts out of the roadway where it crosses Blue Point Creek. The affected area is located east of the Dave Unkraut farm. Currently, the road turns south, then crosses the creek at an odd angle, then again turns south past the Unkraut residence. The project will replace the existing culverts with a new concrete box culvert. The roadway will be developed to run west and south at a gradual angle across the new box culvert and take the sharp angles out of the roadway.
The project is estimated to cost between $90,000 and $100,000.
