Altamont City Council members Wednesday voted to resubmit a request for grant funds for a sanitary sewer replacement project in the northwest section of the city.

The City had earlier been approved for a $550,000 grant for the project by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. DCEO has since said the rising costs of labor and material has the agency making an additional $100,000 available in grant funds.

The kicker is that the City has to apply for the additional funds in a new grant submission. The clock is ticking since bids on the project have already been opened, and a bid award has to take place within 60 days of the opening, which occurred on June 9.

That led the Altamont Council to hold a special meeting Wednesday, when they voted to resubmit the grant request. South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission will prepare the document.
