Effingham Noon Rotarians heard about an innovative program called "Safe Passage" at their meeting June 29.

Effingham Police Chief Jason McFarland discussed the program, which involves those found under the influence of drugs by police officers. The program covers the logistics of providing assistance for the user if they want to begin treatment to get off drugs. That assistance will include a network of people who will provide transportation to a treatment facility. The chief said the program is "our chance to save a life."

Noon Rotarian Greg Sapp served as the program chairman, standing in for Bob Schultz, who arranged the program.
