Effingham Park District officials are hopeful that the Kluthe Memorial Pool will be open by the first of next week.
Park District Director Jeff Althoff told the Park Board Wednesday that the pool was repainted, but was then rained on twice. When the pool was filled, the paint came loose. Althoff said people asked whether they checked the weather forecast before doing the painting, but replied that there's scarcely been a time when we've had a week of dry weather to get the paint properly applied and cured.
Althoff said they hope to have the paint cleaned off by Friday afternoon. It'll then take 1-1/2 days to fill the pool, and then the chemicals need balanced before the pool can open. He said, "we share the frustrations of others about the situation."
Also Wednesday, the Park Board placed the tentative budget and appropriations ordinance on file for public inspection. A vote to adopt the measure will come at the Board's July meeting.
The budget expenditures total $3,998,134.49. That's up from $3,889,000 a year ago.
In other business, Workman Sports and Wellness Complex memberships are up 100 from last month, and Althoff reported that the summer recreation season is in full swing, with Adventure Camp getting underway this week. He said there were 70 teams participating last weekend in the Memorial Day baseball tournament, and the first annual Pickleball Tournament is scheduled this weekend at Hendelmeyer Park.
