Prison sentences have been imposed in two Clay County criminal cases.

Clay County State's Attorney Phillip Givens announced that 33-year-old Cody Bowen of Louisville has been sentenced to five years in prison for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

The charge alleged that in January, Bowen knowingly possessed a handgun, and that he had a prior felony conviction from 2017. Bowen will have to serve one year mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

Givens also announced that 32-year-old Coty J. Workman of Flora was sentenced to a total of five years and six months in prison for Domestic Battery and Aggravated Assault.

The domestic battery count alleged that in December, Workman grabbed a family member by her wrist and shoved her into a closet door. Workman had previous conviction for Domestic Battery from 2017. The aggravated assault charge alleged that in March, Workman approached a Flora police officer in an aggressive manner while waving a knife in front of his body in a threatening way. Workman pleaded guilty in each case and received a three-year sentence for domestic battery, then a consecutive sentence of two years and six months for aggravated assault. Workman will serve four years on mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

The investigations were conducted in the Workman cases by the Flora Police Department, while the investigations in the Bowen case were conducted by the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
