Rural Med is ready to move full speed ahead with plans to serve Effingham County as its 911 ambulance service provider.

Rural Med owner Ethan Bouser said the service is 80% ready on staffing. Bouser said the service will have a location on Wabash Avenue in Effingham and will also have a location in Dieterich.

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler Monday said work on the contract with Rural Med is 90% complete. Rural Med will take over 911 service on May 1. Kibler said the contract should be ready for approval at the County Board's April meeting.

Bouser said it's been interesting as far as the process of being awarded 911 service, but he is ready to get started. He said ambulance services are many and varied. Jasper County, for instance, has its own service. Rural Med serves Fayette County, but doesn't have a contract with that county. Fayette County didn't seek a contract. Rural Med also serves Bond County.

Bouser has been in the ambulance business for 30 years. They began in Farina, but their headquarters is now located in St. Elmo.
