It's often the case that a crash results in an injury or death but, this time, the crash was due to medical reasons.
Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes reported the death of 52-year-old David Marlow of Greenup at about 7:30pm Friday on I-70 just east of Effingham.
When police responded to the crash, Marlow was found to be unresponsive and was transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. The Coroner's Office was notified at 8:23pm that Marlow had died in the emergency room.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Marlow was traveling eastbound and suffered a medical emergency that caused him to run off the road. The vehicle traveled through the median and across the westbound lanes of the interstate. Marlow's vehicle then struck a small tree on the north side of the interstate.
Medical records were requested and toxicology samples were taken by the coroner's office. The office is continuing an investigation.
