Todd Schuette was hired Monday to be the next principal at Central Grade School.
The Unit 40 Board appointed Schuette at a special meeting to succeed the retiring Amy Niebrugge after this school year. Schuette will move up from assistant principal.
The Board also named Aron Spicer to serve as assistant principal at Central to fill Schuette's current post. Spicer is an EHS graduate and currently serves as principal at North Clay Junior High School.
Board members also transferred Ashley Delks to a family and consumer science teaching position at the high school for the coming year, hired Darlene Coffin as a first grade teacher at South Side School for the coming year, and hired Denise White for a five-hour food service position at the high school.
The Board accepted resignations from Tearia Baker as a teacher at South Side and from Markayla Schmidt as a nurse paraprofessional, approved a leave for Kelly Sidwell, and accepted the retirement of Barb Probst as a teacher at the junior high school following the 2024-2025 school year.
Board members approved a Memorandum of Acceptance with the Effingham Classroom Teachers Association regarding teacher evaluations for tenured teachers. Superintendent Mark Doan said the agreement puts in writing what has been in place the past couple of years. The teacher evaluations for tenured teachers will be for three years, rather than two year cycles as in the past.
The Board also approved the upgrade of 162 desktop computer units at a cost of $110,000. The work will involve the junior high computer lab, two labs at the high school, and units for office staff members, the cafeteria, and the teaching staff.
