Effingham Noon Rotarians heard January 5 about the upcoming installation of a turf surface for the outdoor sports complex at Effingham High School.
Local attorney Chris Koester of the Effingham Sportsbackers and Unit 40 School Superintendent Mark Doan spoke about the project, which will provide an all-weather surface for football, soccer and marching band as well as for P.E. classes. Doan said the installation will begin in May with a goal of having the surface in place for the first football game on August 22.
Koester headed a private fundraising effort to go halves with the school district on the project, which will cost more than $1.4 million.
