St. Elmo Grade School was in lockdown briefly Wednesday afternoon while authorities searched for a man reportedly armed with a knife.
St. Elmo Police Department and the Fayette County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to look for a male subject that had left a private residence possibly armed with a knife who was believed to be in the area of the grade school. As a precaution, the sheriff's department asked for the grade school to be locked down until the situation could be investigated. Fayette County Sheriff David Russell said that at no time was anyone in any imminent danger.
St. Elmo police and Fayette County sheriff's deputies were able to locate the man shortly after being dispatched. Russell said the school was allowed to re-open without any problems.
