ECHD Vaccinated Percent Oct 2021

Members of the Effingham County Board's Health Committee Tuesday got the numbers on COVID for the county.

Catherine Bailey of the Effingham County Health Department reported there have been 6,449 confirmed COVID cases in the county and 92 confirmed deaths.

Bailey said nearly 30% of those with COVID were under age 18 once school opened, but the percentage has declined. Over the summer 10%-11% of those with COVID were 18 or younger. Bailey said she believes masking up in school has helped lower the percentage since some districts didn't require masking in the early part of the school year.

As to vaccinations, Bailey said there have been 28,198 vaccinations and said 13,971 county residents are fully vaccinated or over 40% of the county population. Bailey said 82% of the population age 65+ are fully vaccinated, while 42.46% of those ages 16 to 64 are vaccinated. Of those 18+ in the county, 51.85% are fully vaccinated. Of those 12 to 17 years old, 19% are fully vaccinated, about 500 people.

Bailey reported 238 breakthrough cases in the county this year, those who were vaccinated who still contracted COVID.
