The 2021 Back the Blue event is set for Friday night.
The event, designed to show support for the law enforcement community, will take place outside the Thelma Keller Convention Center and will run from approximately 5 to 11pm.
An opening ceremony will begin between 5:45pm and 6pm. The evening will include a performance by the Austin Edwards Band, featuring the Effingham native and police officer who finished runner-up on NBC's "America's Got Talent" last year.
During Edwards' performance, local artist Jamie Stang Ellis will be creating a painting on stage. The painting will be auctioned off, with proceeds to be divided among the six police departments and nine fire departments based in Effingham County.
Following Edwards' performance, the band "1973", a "Journey" tribute band, will perform.
Each band performance is expected to last from one to 1-1/2 hours.
There will be free food, soda and water while supplies last. There will also be a couple of raffles and a silent auction.
Organizer Elizabeth Huston said the event is being sponsored by Back the Blue, Effingham County, Illinois, which is officially working on 401 (c) 3 status to be officially recognized as a not-for-profit organization.
