A local resident has been arrested on a series of charges following an incident at an Effingham residence early last week. The man reportedly threatened to set the residence on fire.

37-year-old Dylan Bovay of Effingham was arrested on counts including attempted aggravated arson, aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated assault, endangering the life or health of a child, resisting or obstructing a police officer, reckless conduct and reckless driving.

City police officers were called to a residence in the 1200 block of South 3rd Street at 6:31pm Monday, the 16th. The call came regarding an individual identified as Bovay spraying lighter fluid all over the house and threatening to ignite it. As officers arrived, Bovay was driving a vehicle through a yard and across a ditch. Police say Bovay then returned to the residence, exited the vehicle, and laid on the concrete. After being arrested, Bovay started to resist and assault officers.
