Informational Picket at EIU Today

Today as students begin moving in for a new academic year at Eastern Illinois University, the frontline workers of EIU will be on an informational picket line beginning at noon at 4th and Lincoln in Charleston.

EIU employees have been in contract negotiations with university administration for more than a year and workers have stated that they want fair wages and a commitment that administration won't privatize dining services and building services which would put EIU building service, dining and clerical-technical employees out of work.

"It's long past time for the administration to stop dragging its feet and settle a fair contract now," said Natalie Nagel, staff representative for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 981 which represents EIU workers.
