Effingham Man Killed in Fayette County Accident

State Police say 37-year-old Stephen McEvers of Effingham died in the crash of a side-by-side vehicle north of the Vandalia Correctional Center in Fayette County at 11:12 Saturday night.
Preliminary investigation details indicates McEvers was traveling west on East 2000th Avenue approaching US 51 when he failed to negotiate a curve, left the right side of the road, and struck a tree.
McEvers was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Illinois State Police continues their investigation into the accident. Fayette County Coroner David Harris said an autopsy will be held in Effingham Monday to officially determine the cause of death.
