There was a celebrative, yet reflective tone to most of the speeches shared at the 2021 Effingham High School commencement ceremony Sunday.

While there was much of "we did it" remarks by speakers, several others focused on coming through the pandemic while working their way through their senior year. Others took time to be thankful for blessings, despite the troubles of the past year or so.

Speakers included Senior Class President Jonathan Coffin and Co-Valedictorians Andrew Blacker, Callista Denoyer, Jackeline Garcia, Gabriel Kihne, Holden Lewis, Jakob Logan, Savannah Morrissey, Dane Seiler, Anna Sigg, Max Woelfer, Parker Wolfe and Chase Woomer.

High school principal Kurt Roberts was also reflective, reminding the graduates that he returned to EHS as principal as they moved on to EHS from their junior high days where Roberts had served as assistant principal. He noted he had been with them the past seven years, something he said no other class will be able to share.
