The Illinois EPA Monday announced that Effingham will receive $30,000 to help finance design of a sewer system extension.

City Director of Public Works Jeremy Heuerman said Effingham applied with Milano and Grunloh Engineers for the funds that would help pay for design of sewer from Salt Creek east up the hill along US Route 40 to Crystal Club Road. Heuerman said the money is from the Unsewered Communities Planning Grant Program. He said that while Effingham is a sewered community, areas within the City limits are not sewered, including the commercial developments in that area east of Salt Creek.

Heuerman said that now that the design funds are available, the City can look at applying for construction grant funds this fall.
