Car and Motorcycle Collision in Clay County Wednesday

A car and motorcycle collided Wednesday afternoon in Clay County.

The crash happened just before 5:30pm on US Highway 50 at Sunset Road. Illinois State Police report the car driven by 65-year-old Cathy Stout of Clay City was eastbound, waiting to turn left onto Sunset Road. The motorcycle operated by 51-year-old Michael Spitzner of Clay City failed to slow and rear-ended Stout's car.

Spitzner was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment of what were termed life-threatening injuries. Stout was not injured.

Spitzner was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
