Effingham City Council members met Tuesday with city staff concerning the budget for the fiscal year that will begin May 1.
The 45-minute meeting gave all involved the opportunity to review capital improvements envisioned for the coming year, as well as the funding sources to pay for the work.
There is a major emphasis on street resurfacing including portions of Temple Avenue, Charlotte Street, and others, as well as the bike trail striping and signage project, and studies on future projects. Close to half a million dollars is budgeted for work on improvements to a number of residential properties related to a grant funded project awarded to the City last year.
The Council will likely vote at a special meeting March 30 to have the proposed budget placed on file, with a final vote to approve the budget at the Council meeting on April 20, to have the measure in place when the new fiscal year begins.
