Windsor school board members were updated on the district's Social/Emotional Learning class at this month's meeting.
Windsor Superintendent Erik Vanhoveln said instructor Monica Genta and four students from the class shared about what they've learned over the past. Vanhoveln said the class began about the time the pandemic hit, but was about more than that. He said things such as looking someone in the eye when speaking with them, good manners, identifying a place to go and talk with someone, and how to save and how to give were topics. He noted that the students wrapped and gave Christmas gifts to grade school students, and that learning how to wrap the presents was part of the class experience.
The class will continue next school year.
The Board agreed to begin the coming school year with a teacher institute on August 18 and to close the year with the last day of student attendance on May 24, 2022. Also approved was a teacher sharing agreement with the Stew-Stras district for Jill Spour; created a high school golf activity fund utilizing memorial funds; and used federal grant funds for purchase of 22 Prometheus boards for $77,261.
Windsor board members discussed what changes should be made for the start of the coming school year. It was agreed that fundraisers and field trips would return, as well as a grade school end-of-year Fun Day. There are still discussing whether to hold a Prom.
In personnel moves, the Windsor board hired Dillon Burch as junior high track coach and Lindsay Floyd as assistant high school softball coach, and acceped resignations from Jacklyn Creason as an elementary teacher and from Kim Pinkston as a fulltime bus driver.
