A Casey man was injured Thursday when his SUV rear-ended a stopped semi in Cumberland County.
The crash happened on the Jewett-Toledo blacktop, just north of US 40 at Jewett shortly before noon. Illinois State Police report the semi driven by 29-year-old Cole Hille of Montrose was stopped on one lane of the blacktop, while Hille was off-loading equipment from the flatbed trailer of the rig. The SUV driver, 81-year-old Larry Swim of Casey, was northbound when it struck the rear of the rig, causing the SUV to overturn in the middle of the roadway.
Swim was taken for treatment of injuries received in the crash.
Hille was cited for improper parking on the roadway. Swim was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, no valid driver's license, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
