Mattoon Man Arrested on Weapons, Sexual Assault Charges

Mattoon city police have arrested 31-year-old Zachary T. Schrock of Mattoon on counts of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition by a felon, as well as criminal sexual assault.

Schrock was arrested at 9:19pm Saturday on Marshall Avenue in Mattoon. It's alleged that during a traffic stop about 3am Saturday Schrock fled on foot from officers, after having concealed a firearm in the vehicle in which he's been traveling.
About 9pm Saturday, Schrock was again stopped in a motor vehicle, and was found to be in possession of ammunition. Schrock is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to being a convicted felon.
Schrock was also arrested in a separate investigation, alleging he engaged in sexual conduct with a 16-year-old girl throughout the past four months.
Schrock was taken to Coles County Jail.
