PANA -- Effingham St. Anthony and Pana Sacred Heart split victories in junior high boys basketball Wednesday evening.

The Bullpups claimed the seventh-grade win, 40-12. St. Anthony ripped out to a 19-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Blake Verdeyen got St. Anthony off in the right direction, scoring nine of the 19 opening quarter points and finished with 17 for the contest. Curtis Tingley chipped in with eight.

In the eighth-grade contest, Pana Sacred Heart was a 43-24 winner.

Sacred Heart held an 18-6 opening quarter lead and led 28-10 at halftime.

St. Anthony was led in scoring by Jameson McAllister with five points.

The Bullpups stand at 19-1 in seventh-grade play and are 11-7 in eighth-grade action.
