Big Jay, Jason Gentry, 46, our larger than life son, brother, uncle, and friend has made his final journey here on this earth on Friday, April 9, 2021. Our hearts are breaking at his unexpected passing.
Jay was born on March 11, 1975, in Clinton, IL. Jay loved his family, friends, and the Chicago Cubs. He loved gaming and playing poker with friends near and far. He never knew a stranger and he made everyone he talked to feel better about themselves. Through the outpouring of love and affection from his varied network of friendships, we've affirmed his kindness, compassion, humor, and generosity. The ability to bring laughter was his gift. Jay was a blessing and was loved by all who had the privilege to know him. He will be sorely missed.
Jay is survived by his mother, Debbie (Mike) Johnson; father, Roger Gentry; sister, Eran (Kevin) Allen; step-siblings, Michele (Steve) Reese and Allen Johnson; nieces and nephews, McKenzie (Anthony) Michael, Megan Allen, Noah Allen, Isaac Reese, and Eli Reese; and great-niece, Lettie Ann Giles.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; cousin, Deanna Followell; and aunt, Kelly Gentry.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Cornerstone Christian Church in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.
