Onda May Wendte, 85, of Effingham, IL, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the Youth Ministry of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Effingham. Onda was born on January 17, 1934, in Effingham County, IL, the daughter of Edward and Cora (Campbell) Kohnert. She married Irvin Wendte on February 28, 1960 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, IL, and he survives. Onda was a bookkeeper at CIPS for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church on Dutch Lane and then transferred into St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effingham. Onda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed seeing her grandchildren grow up and loved hearing them play their musical instruments and sing to her. She will be missed but her memories will last forever.
Onda is survived by her husband, Irvin of Effingham; daughters, Carolyn Wendte of Effingham and Donetta “Domer” (Derek) Ohnesorge of Effingham; granddaughters, Coralin Ohnesorge and Cailin Ohnesorge; brother, Bob (Ruth) Kohnert of Effingham; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant sister, Lawanda.
