Velma Jean Kirchhofer, 91, of Shumway, IL passed away peacefully at 6:20 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1 at Faith Lutheran Church in Shumway with the Reverend Jason Rensner officiating. Burial will take place in Faith Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made in Velma’s name to the Faith Lutheran Church in Shumway. Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.
Velma was born on November 13, 1927, in Decatur, the daughter of Lester and Ora (Padrick) Seeley. Velma and Walter Kirchhofer were united in holy matrimony on August 10, 1947 and were blessed with 67 years of marriage before his passing on July 27, 2015. Velma was a homemaker who worked alongside her husband on the farm. She taught at the Dennis School in 1947 and Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Surviving are her daughters: Mary (Jim) Miller of Stewardson and Kay (Dave) Frederking of Altamont; son, Donald (Marita) of Montana; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Ed Kirchhofer; sister, Ola Luther and brother-in-law, Elmer Luther.
