Our own Greg Sapp has announced plans to step aside from duties as Sports Director for Premier Broadcasting, Inc. Greg will remain as Station Manager and News Director and will remain a part of the Morning Show team.
Matt Robinson will become Sports Director for Premier.
The changes will be effective Monday, July 31.
The 67-year-old Sapp said the decision follows a lot of thought and prayer and a sports season that was as exciting as they come. That included state championships and other state tournament appearances in various sports.
"I spoke with Dave and Tonya a while back and shared that I felt it was time to lessen the load. They were very understanding and I appreciate that. I want everyone to understand that this was entirely my idea."
Greg will stick around for at least one more season of Effingham High School football broadcasts. The Hearts will open their season Friday, August 25 with Greg and Dustin White calling the action. Greg might show up on other broadcasts from time to time.
As for Matt being named Sports Director, Greg said, "I'm excited for Matt. He's about the same age as I was when Larry Wilson retired so he should have a nice long run of high school sports broadcasting in him."
Regarding staying on as News Director, Greg said, "The word 'retirement' has never held that much appeal. There is so much going on in the Effingham County area and I want to continue covering those happenings for the foreseeable future."
