A man traveling on the interstate through Effingham County is in jail after his arrest on drug charges.

36-year-old Jonathan A. Adams of Golden, Colorado was arrested by Illinois State Police just before 11pm Tuesday. Adams was traveling on I-57 near the south split with I-70 in the area near the Cross at the Crossroads. A quantity of cannabis was found in Adams' vehicle when police made a traffic stop.

Adams was charged in Effingham County Circuit Court Wednesday with a Class X felony count of cannabis trafficking, a Class X felony count of unlawful possession with intent to deliver cannabis, and a Class 1 felony count of unlawful possession of cannabis. The Class X felony counts would result in mandatory imprisonment if Adams is convicted of the counts. The charges allege possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis.

Adams' bond was set at $75,000.
