The Effingham County 911 Board has voted that 911 should own and provide maintenance for an eight-site radio system.
Support for the system was generated by the fire chiefs in the county due to poor reception experienced with the existing system. Antennas will be placed on water towers and other high spots throughout the county. Under the plan, messages sent by one fire district will be heard by all fire districts in the county.
The Board also voted to earmark $179,200 for the City of Effingham for three tower sites, to be maintained by the City.
