(ELLERBE)

A May 23 trial date has been set for the man suspected of holding up First Mid Bank and Trust in Effingham earlier this month.

45-year-old Corey Ellerbe of Indianapolis is charged with entering the bank lobby the morning of April 1 and demanding money, inferring that he was armed, but never displaying a weapon.

Ellerbe fled the bank and headed east on I-70 into Indiana where he was taken into custody later that day. No shots were fired, and no one was injured.

Ellerbe has been charged with aggravated robbery, rather than armed robbery, since no weapon was displayed. He could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.

Ellerbe is next due in court for a final pre-trial hearing on May 12. He is being held in Effingham County Jail on $250,000 bond.
