A woman and a nine-year-old girl were injured in a crash just west of Effingham Thursday afternoon.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department is reporting that 42-year-old Lisa Lauritzen of Effingham was westbound on Fayette Road at 4:10pm when a deer ran onto the roadway. Deputies report Lauritzen attempted to avoid the deer and her vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle struck the deer and then struck an embankment. The vehicle became airborne before landing on its side and coming to rest on the passenger side.

Both Lauritzen and the girl were ejected from the vehicle.

Lauritzen was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana, while the nine-year-old was airlifted to St. Louis Children's Hospital.
