Despite complaints from Republican legislators and many constituent groups, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker Friday signed into law the redistricting maps developed by Democrat legislators.
The three maps signed into law by Pritzker outline new districts for the General Assembly, Illinois Supreme Court and Cook County Board of Review.
The new maps take effect immediately.
State Representatives Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) made this statement Friday afternoon after learning that the governor signed into law the legislative maps:
“Governor JB Pritzker lied in 2018 when he wanted to pretend he was an outsider and independent from the good old boy political machine. The same broken corrupt system is still alive and well in Illinois. There is no new day. No transparency…No respect for the taxpayers and citizens of our state. In spite of these gerrymandered maps that only serve to consolidate the power of the Permanent Political Class, I plan to continue my fight in Springfield for the hard-working folks in Southern Illinois.”
State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) made the following statement upon learning that the governor signed the new legislative map proposal:
“Once again, Governor JB Pritzker proved that he cannot be trusted. His campaign promise not to sign any maps that were drawn by politicians, partisan staff or their allies was an out and out lie! Nearly 50 community advocacy groups begged for the process to wait until the U.S. Census data is available in a few weeks, but the Governor and his allies in the Madigan Machine are still trying to consolidate their political power with these unfair, gerrymandered maps. This a rubber stamp on the continuing power grab by the Democrat Party in Illinois. The people of Illinois said they are fed up with the same old politics and rejected the governor’s graduated tax increase in the last election. This is not the leadership we need to move Illinois forward for our families and communities!”
