An Effingham County jury took just 90 minutes today to find Christopher Glass of Mason guilty of first degree murder. The 37-year-old Glass was found guilty of the April 2020 shooting death of Kimberly Mattingly.
The case went to the jury at 10:35am, and they returned with their verdict at 12:05pm.
Not only was Glass found guilty of first degree murder, he was also found guilty of concealment of homicidal death, and aggravated battery with a firearm.

In closing arguments, State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said the nature of the incident made it clear that Mattingly had been murdered and the only question was "who did it?" Kibler said it was a domestic dispute "as old as time"; a man gets into a domestic dispute with his significant other, and he killed her. He said, "(Glass) says he shot her recklessly, but I contend he shot her intentionally to kill her."
Public Defender Scott Schmidt argued that Glass "had no reason to hurt (Mattingly) that day." Schmidt said, "We think you can find that Chris acted recklessly."
In rebuttal, Assistant State's Attorney Rob Scales said, "I submit that when you shoot someone, you know that will do great bodily harm." Scales said, "One shot could be reckless...five-six-seven shots, not so."
Glass is to be sentenced on August 3. He will be held without bond until sentencing.
